Greeting- 2 minutes
Teacher to Students- Listen & Repeat (some or all)
Hello, Hi, Hey, Howdy, G’day, Good Morning, Hola, Aloha, Bon Jour, Bon Dia, Bon Journo, Ni Hao, Konnichiwa, Anyohaseyo, Sambaino, Kiola, Selamat Pagi (am) (pm-Siang), Shalom, Jambo, Asalamalekum, Zzdrastvet-yah, Namaste.

Janken 4’s- Warm-Up/Review/Conversation Skills Practice- 5 minutes
ALT/HRT: Janken and do the conversation first together, then with a few students to practice/demonstrate.
Students: Each student Janken and Converse with 3 others in groups of 4
Blackboard

  • W) Do you like dogs?
  • L1)Yes, I do. I like dogs.
  • L2)No, I don’t. I don’t like dogs.
Let’s Listen- 8 minutes
Text- page 30-31
CD- track 31
ALT/HRT- Introduce the picture- Where is the scene in the pictures (a hotel lobby). How many people do you see? Who is talking together? I see a woman in a pink kimono- What color are her shoes? I see a boy in a red t-shirt- What color are his socks? etc.... THEN Play the CD for the students 1 or 2 times. After students check answers with seat partners, check answers with the whole class.
Students-Write 1, 2 or 3 in the boxes next to the pairs of people in the picture. Check answers with seat parnters, then with whole class.
Answers- 1-boy with orange pack; 2-woman with kimono; 3-boy with red t-shirt (woman pair with Korean dress)

CLOTHES Song- to tune and similar movements of
                        Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes- 5 minutes
Blackboard-
  • Cap, T-shirt, Pants and Shoes. Pants and Shoes. 2X
  • Sweater, Skirt, Shorts and Socks.
  • Cap, T-shirt, Pants and Shoes. Pants and Shoes.
ALT- Lead song and movement.
Students- Sing and move with the song.

ACTIVITY- Colors- Listen, Point and Repeat- 5 minutes
HRT- Ask students the color names in Japanese BEFORE writing on blackboard.
Blackboard-
  • yellow, orange, red, white, black, blue, green, pink.
Text- page 30-31, 33
ALT- Listen and Repeat color names from blackboard. Then, with texts open, call out paired words: Page 30-31: red shoes, pink shoes, orange bag, yellow bag, red t-shirt, blue pants, white pants, pink kimono, blue skirt, white shoes, pink dress, brown bag, ... Page 33: yellow t-shirt, blue shoes, yellow socks, yellow bag, pink skirt, blue cap, black pants, black apron, yellow shoes, white socks, green skirt, ....
Students- Listen, Point and Repeat after ALT in text, page 30-31, 33

CHANT- Do you have a red cap?- 5 minutes
Blackboard-
  • Do you have clap-clap2X 
  • Do you have a red cap? clap-clap-clap 
  • 1-2-3-Yes, I do. clap-clap I have a red cap. clap-clap-clap

Materials- dice
ALT- Lead chant
HRT- As they are chosen by students, draw colored clothes on a figure on the blackboard

ACTIVITY-Coloring (and preparing for a later activity)- 5 minutes
Text- page 65
Materials- color pens or pencils
Students- color in the clothes for your gender on page 65.

CHANT/Activity (again) Do you have a red cap?- 5 minutes
Blackboard- same as last chant.
ALT/HRT- Lead the song and activity. Alternate Yes and No answers.
Students- Sing along. IF you have the colored clothes in the chant, raise your hand and say, “Yes, I do!” and sing that part to the end.

Wrap-Up- 3 minutes
(Present common mistakes to the whole class. Write the mistaken point on the blackboard, and ask if anybody can see the mistake.) Or-
HRT to Students, in Japanese:
-What did we talk about today? 
-Were there some words you already knew?
-Did you learn any new words?
-What was fun or interesting?
-What was difficult?
-How can we make that easier next time?

Closing- 1 minute
Students: ‘Thank you! Good bye!’
Teachers: ‘You’re welcome! Good bye!’
